The members of the Dallas County Area Retired School Personnel Association (DCARSPA)
welcomed Mark Chase to their October meeting. Chase will be the general manager of the new JBS Prepared Foods Inc. plant under construction near the Perry Industrial Park.

JBS, a global food company with more than 250 production facilities in more than 180 countries, is a leading food producer in the U.S. Construction began on the new Perry plant last month and is expected to be completed by next fall.

Although the plant will initially open with one shift employing 500, Chase said, the plant’s square footage is being increased to 175,000 feet so it can accommodate a second shift when necessary. He said JBS products are sold by Costco under the Costco or Swift name.

Located on the southeast corner of the 90 acres purchased by the company, it will be
surrounded by fencing.

It is expected to process 1,000 sows a day, Chase said. The pores in these sows are
more open, which allows for better seasoning of the sausage, he said.

There will not be any rendering at this facility, so the odor that was for six decades associated with the slaughterhouse on the city’s wests side will not return.

As school personnel, the DCARSPA members were glad to hear that JBS will be working with DMACC to cover tuition for its employees and their children.

Sue Leslie is the secretary of DCARSPA.
