NORWALK — A difficult season for both Perry basketball teams continued Tuesday in a pair of non-conference losses to host Norwalk.

The Warriors (2-5) used a 25-0 run over a 12-minute span to post a 57-22 win in the girls game, with Norwalk (5-2) embarrassing their guests, 97-21, in the boys meeting.

The Jayettes (1-7) trailed, 11-10, in the final minute of the first quarter of the opening bout, but then did not score until less than six minutes were on the third quarter clock. Norwalk rattled off 25 unanswered points during that stretch, opening a 36-10 lead.

The Warriors held a 47-15 lead after three full frames en route to the victory. Gianna Bellizzi scored all 16 of her points in the first half to fuel the surge by the hosts, with Olivia Johnson scoring nine of her 12 points after the break.

Keara Schmitt had nine points, Jocelyn Bice eight, Hana Eltjes six, Emma Soukup four and Ellie Wermerskirchen two. Johnson had six rebounds, Schmitt five steals and Bice four boards, four thefts and four assists.

Molly Lutmer sank 4-of-6 3-pointers to lead Perry with 16 points. Gabby West added four points, with Hannah Peterson and Quinn Whiton each adding one free throw.

West had eight rebounds and Whiton five for Perry, who committed an unofficial 31 turnovers.

The Bluejays (0-6) were out of the game almost from the moment it started, falling into an 18-0 hole in just four minutes and trailing, 30-2, after one quarter. By halftime the deficit stood at 62-10, swelling to 81-16 after three frames.

The 76-point margin of defeat is one point larger than the total points the Jays have scored in their three most recent games.

Keghan West stood out with a determined effort for the guests, finishing with a team-best 12 points. Carlos Calderon, Jordan Long and Alex Morales scored two points apiece, with Mohamed Abdelnabi, Mario Cruz and Avery Meister each sinking one free throw.

Norwalk made 13 3-pointers while Perry did not score beyond the arc. The hosts were 14-of-16 at the foul line, with the visitors just 3-of-8.

Tyler Johnson had five treys while scoring 33 points, with Bowen Born splashing four triples as part of his 32 points to help guide the Warriors.

Perry hosts ADM Friday and Winterset Tuesday, then wraps the pre-holiday portion of their schedule with a Dec. 20 visit to Ogden.
