Each year the members of the Nu Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International hold a “Bakeless Bake Sale” in order to raise money for grant-in-aid awards for college juniors or seniors enrolled in an education program.

This year, thanks to a generous donation from the family of Darlene Pitsenbarger, a longtime Nu Alpha Gamma member who passed away last fall, the Chapter was able to award two $500 grants, and the awardees were Kaylin Wachter and Taylor Wolken.

Kaylin Wachter is entering her junior year at the University of Northern Iowa, with plans to be a secondary history teacher in a rural district. She has been interested in history for a long time, she said, and also enjoys dancing and traveling, including a joyful trip to Greece earlier this summer.

Taylor Wolken will be a junior at Iowa State University this fall, majoring in elementary education and hoping to teach kindergarten. She also enjoys traveling and dance.

Recipients in the next Nu Alpha Gamma grant-in-aid cycle will be selected in April 2026. Applicants must have graduated from a Dallas County high school or be a current resident of Dallas County. They should be college sophomores or juniors who is majoring in a B.S. or B.A. program in education.

Nu Alpha Gamma is a society of both active and retired women educators who meet monthly in order to enjoy fellowship, interesting programs, networking and leadership opportunities.
