Following the rain of 2-4 inches, the National Weather Service office in Johnston has extended the flood warning issued Sunday night until 2:30 p.m. Monday for the Perry area as well as Boone, Dallas, Guthrie and Polk counties.

Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring, the NWS said. The Middle Raccoon River near Bayard has leveled off, but the Beaver Creek near Woodward continues to rise, indicating significant runoff is ongoing, the NWS said.

As fresh storm fronts move through the area, additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the flood-warned area, the NWS said.

Travelers should turn around and do not drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles, according to the NWS. Travelers should be especially cautious at night, when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
