The lights are on, and dinner is served at the new Oasis Restaurant at 1223 Otley Ave. in downtown Perry.

Yanira Del Rosario Sanchez, owner since 2016 of the Oasis Market at 921 Railroad St., bought the former tavern at 1223 Otley Ave. last summer. Extensive improvements have been made inside and outside the building, including new sidewalks and parking lot.

On hand at Monday’s soft opening were Oscar Ramirez, Rosa Angel and Elba Coras, all of Perry. A grand opening with ribbon cutting will be held in the coming weeks.

Ramirez said the restaurant will be serving lunch and supper. The hours are Monday to Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The building was built in 1920 and was known for many years as the Bally Hoo Lounge.  Sanchez’s Railroad Street property had a similarly colorful history under the longtime ownership of Raymond “Mutt” Smithson of Perry.

A new sidewalk and parking lot are among the improvements at the new Oasis Restaurant at 1223 Otley Ave.
