Over 150 youth take part in PAWS meet Saturday

The McCreary Community Building was abuzz with activity Saturday as the venue played host to a Perry Area Winter Swim team meet, in which over 150 youth competed. Squads from Clarinda, Harlan and Manning were Perry’s guests.

The hosts had a rather successful outing, as 20 boys and 19 girls from the home team experienced victory at least one time.

Leading the way for the PAWS boys were Kenyon Zander (15-18) and Adrian Quijas and Caden Larsen (both 11-12), all of who had four wins.

Triple victories were recorded by Garrett Winey (15-18), Collin Stringham (13-14), Isaac Winey (11-12) and both Ray Hughes and Lyle Jacobsen (both 8U).

Tucker Carroll and Connor Larsen (both 15-18), Dayton Crawley, Diego Diaz-Cardenas and Jameson Pfang (all 13-14), Bryan Anderson (11-12), Dyson and Renaud Deardorff (both 9-10) and Lucciano Oliver (8U) were all double-winners.

Also tasting victory for the PAWS boys were 8U racers Jadiel Pena-Barrios, Alexis Jaimes and Graham Clark.

Sophia McDevitt, Jaylene Karolus and Lilly Riley (all 15-18) were four-time victors, as was Kilee Hughes (9-10).

Winning three times were 11-12 speedsters Aleah Karolus, Alejandra Gruber and Rylee Robson, with 9-10 racers Isabella Stein and Kendee Cromwell and 8U swimmers Raelyn Knudsen and Trinity Stonehocker.

Earning two wins were Addison Huntington and Zoe Hibbert (both 15-18), Meredith Arganbright (11-12) and Sophia Stein and Collins Brelsford (both 8U).

Wins were also recorded by Lauren Riley and Blase Robson (both 9-10) and Maya Anderson (8U).

PAWS will swim at Grinnell Saturday before hosting a final regular season meet Feb. 19.
