PANORA — Class 2A No. 7 Panorama did not shoot well Thursday, but it hardly mattered, as a pestering defense and solid rebounding led the hosts to a 60-23 throttling of Martensdale-St. Marys.
Panorama (6-1) ran out to an 18-8 lead after one quarter, a margin that swelled to 34-18 at the break. M-SM (2-3) scored only five points in the third quarter and no points in the fourth, with 26 combined points from the Panthers setting the final score.
The Panthers pulled down 40 rebounds — 20 offensively — in part because the team hit only 5-of-20 3-pointers and were a combined 18-of-58 from the floor. Nine different players had steals for the hosts, who harassed the Blue Devils with 17 steals.
Panorama junior guard Bailey Beckman had five thefts to go with her game-high 21 points. Mogan Johnk added 16 points and Devyn Kemble 14, with four points from Hope Wilderman, three from Nicole Rolfes and two from Anna Holloway closed the home team scoring.
Kemble and Kellie Prince had six rebounds apiece while Rolfes cleared five boards. Johnk contributed three assists and Wilderman three steals to help the winning cause.
