
GUTHRIE CENTER — Class 1A top-ranked Logan-Magnolia slipped past 2A No. 3 Panorama, 64-71, to claim the girls varsity team title at the AC/GC Invite Thursday. Collins-Maxwell was third at 87 in a 12-team field that had 118 runners in action.
The Panther boys posted a score of 186 to place seventh in a 13-team field, with 127 harriers on the course. AC/GC won the boys title with 70 points, with Red Oak second at 98 while Perry was third at 119.
Class 2A No. 6 Ella Waddle of Panorama, a sophomore, was first in 20 minutes, 23.01 seconds, Lo-Ma’s third and fourth-ranked sisters Courtney and Taylor Sporrer (21:05.49 and 22:26.03) second and third and AC/GC’s 1A No. 5 Kate Crawford (21:52.25) fourth.
Sophomore twins Gwen and Olivia Steffen were 9-11 for Panorama in 24:05.11 and 24:39.15. Senior Brooklyn Behrends finished 24th in 26:18.82, with freshman Payton Beckman 26:28.35.
Also running for the Panther girls were Emily Smith (32nd, 26:37.58) and Bryn Steffen (34th, 26:42.62).
AC/GC won the boys race with 70 points, with Red Oak second at 98 and Perry third at 119.
Eighth-ranked Noah Nelsen of AC/GC was the winner in 18:05.74, with 14th-rated Logan Berg of Baxter second at 18:12.97 while Louden Foster of West Central Valley crossed third in 18:43.7.
The highest finisher for the Panther boys was Levi Richey, who crossed 21st in 20:52.6, with Kevin Cogil 26th in 21:18.5. Noah Kirtley finished 29th in 21:33.88, Kade Kilmer 51st in 23:44.45 and Drew Hafner 59th in 24:20.62. Avery Norman (62nd, 25:27.78) and Alex Mills (74th, 26:40.73) also ran for the varsity.
A two-mile junior high race was held for both girls and boys, with AC/GC winning both, at 41 points and 32, respectively. Panorama was fourth with 65 points in a six-team girls race, with the Panthers not having enough runners to generate a team score in the boys competition.
Mia Waddle won the girls race in 16:11.21, with Kaitlin Kent sixth in 18:31.33. Kylie Doran (21:55.98), Tyme Boettcher (22:02.59) and Zoey Hambleton (22:24.51) were 22-23-25 to also score for the Panthers. Ella Knapp (23:56.44) and Avery Bahrenfus (32:50.71) were 30-37 for Panorama.
Maddox Hammerstrom (16:28.13) and Weston Floeger (20:02.64) were the lone Panther boys to compete in the middle school race.
Panorama will resume competition Thursday with a visit to a familiar course, as they run at the 5×80 Golf Course in Menlo at the WCV Wildcat Invite.
