
MANSON — Panorama roared to three victories Tuesday in the opener to their wrestling season despite leaving the 106, 113 and 120 pound weight classes open in each of their three duals.
Panorama began their 2016-17 campaign with a 46-24 win over Coon Rapids-Bayard and followed up with a 42-28 victory against Southeast Valley before scoring a 48-24 win over host Northwest Webster.
Five Panther grapplers finished with 3-0 marks, though none had an easier night than 195-pounder Dalton Holmes, who received a trio of forfeits, with Tyler Van Houten (152 pounds) winning twice by forfeit and with a pin, in 2 minutes, 30 seconds, over Alex Pudenz of SEV while competing at 160.
Gunnar Grunsted (170) defeated SEV’s Kaelen Sundberg, 6-2, before pinning NW’s Carson Peterson in 45 seconds while Kaleb Stogdill scored a 6-0 win against Carter Fluckiger (SEV) before nailing Austin Berger (NW) in 1:39. Both Panther matmen also received forfeits.
George Appleseth (132) also posted three wins for the Panthers with a forfeit and pins of Carson Hilgenberg (CR-B) in 2:53 and of Evan McCrady (SEV, time n/a).
Danny Nordquist (126) pinned CR-B’s Garrett Peterson in 1:47 and SEV’s Sam Hemmestad in 1:55 to finish 2-1, with Noah Kirtley (145) pinning SEV’s Jake Peterson in 2:00 while also receiving in forfeit as he also finished 2-0 for Panorama.
Heavyweight Dan Jensen recorded a 14-2 major decision against Clayton Heck of CR-B and was given a forfeit in tallying a 2-1 effort while Brady Howard was 1-2 at 220 with a win by forfeit. Also 1-2 with wins by forfeit were Jacob Holwegner at 138 and Trevor Carey at 182.
The Panthers return to the mat Saturday at the Treynor Invitational. They will visit Van Meter Dec. 8 and Central Decatur Dec. 9.
