Panthers finish with split in Saturday tourney

GUTHRIE CENTER — Panorama started Saturday softball action with an 8-2 win over West Harrison, with Underwood posting an 8-1 victory over the Panthers in their second game.

West Harrison (2-3) had taken a 2-1 lead in the first game with a single run in the bottom of the third, but Panorama (2-3) struck for four runs in the top of the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh to pull away for the victory.

Grace Richey threw seven innings in collecting the win. She allowed three walks and four hits while striking out three. One of the two Hawk runs was unearned.

Richey aided her own cause by driving in one run while adding two hits, with Shey Storesund, Lindy Nelson, Claire Woodworth and Zoey Hambleton providing singles as well. Grace Webner, Storesund, Hambleton, Woodworth and Lindsey VanGundy  each drove in a run, with Brix Gymer and Caitlyn Sloss each scoring twice while Angel Poldberg, Storesund, Webner, and Hambleton also crossing the plate.

The second game saw Underwood open a quick 3-0 lead, a margin that grew to 6-1 after Panorama scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth.

Richey went four innings, yielding six runs (only one of which was earned) on six hits. She hit one batter and struck out one. Tyme Boettcher pitched two frames, allowing two runs on six hits.

Woodworth and Richey both had two singles, with Hambleton, Nelson and Storesund adding hits. Hambleton had the sole RBI, knocking in pinch runner Meredith Woodworth.

Panorama is at Madrid Monday and East Union Wednesday before visiting Earlham Thursday.
