Although she still has her junior season of softball before her, the decision of Perry’s Lydia Olejniczak of where to continue her studies and playing career has been made, and Drake University is the choice.

Olejniczak has been a mainstay at shortstop for the Jayettes since starting at the demanding position three years ago as an eighth grader. She earned Class 4A Third Team All-State recognition that season, and followed by with similar honors after her sophomore campaign.

A career .397 hitter, Olejniczak has 89 hits in three years, including 10 doubles, six triples and seven home runs. She has scored 60 runs and made the most of her limited RBI chances with 25.

She has made the most of her speed and has been successful on 54-of-56 stolen base attempts.

Drake is coached by Rich Calvert. He has been quite successful at Drake since arriving in 2003, including leading the Bulldogs into the NCAA tournament, their first such appearances since 1994.

Olejniczak is the daughter of Jason and Tiffany of Perry.
