This month’s Perry Chamber of Commerce coffee was hosted by the Perry-Area Food Pantry at 3000 Willis Ave.
After 18 months in their new quarters, the food pantry had a lot of good news to share with the commercial community. Site Director Lou Hoger outlined recent developments, giving special thanks to the pantry’s generous donors and the current roster of 36 volunteers.
A model of transparency, Hoger shared the non-profit’s income and expense numbers and outlined the pantry’s various sources for donated food, beginning with the Food Bank of Iowa. He also described the various volunteer duties and the recent improvements to the site, including flooring and HVAC upgrades.
The Perry Area Emergency Food Council organized itself in 1982 as a non-profit corporation and began operating as the Perry Area Food Pantry. New volunteers are always welcome, Hoger said. The pantry is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m.
