ALLEMAN — North Polk plated two runs in the second inning and three more in the third to hand Perry a 5-1 loss in non-conference baseball Tuesday.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Avery Meister was given the start for Perry. He tossed three frames and yielded two run on five hits, with Keghan West surrendering three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one in 1-2/3 innings. Kato Dougan tossed the final 1-1/3, allowing one hit and issuing one walk.

Austin Carpenter had two hits and scored for Perry in the top of the seventh, with base hits from West and Aaron Lockwood accounting for the remainder of the Bluejay offense.

The season began Monday, with Roland-Story, beneficiary of two disputed calls in the second inning, cashing in a pair of runs to open a 3-1 lead and never looking back in claiming a 6-2 win over Perry at Progressive Field.

Austin Carpenter was handed the loss on the hill for Perry. The senior battled control issues but was saddled with several tough breaks in 2-2/3 innings of work.

Carter Greenfield, aboard with one out after being hit with a pitch, was ruled safe attempting to steal second base in the top of the second. Later, while on third base, Greenfield was deemed to have dived safely back to the bag on a pickoff throw from Perry catcher Gavin Boyer. A two-out triple down the right field line from Landon Greiner followed, driving in two runs and moving the score to 3-1 when Perry might otherwise have escaped unscathed.

Alexis Garrido relieved and at one time recorded seven consecutive outs by strikeout, but two Perry errors and two base hits were mixed among the septet, allowing the Norsemen to open a 5-1 lead.

Aaron Lockwood pitched the final two frames for the Bluejays, who tied the game at 1-all in the bottom of the first when Kaleb Olejniczak started Perry’s first at-bat with an infield hit. He swiped second and moved to third on a bunt, scoring later in the frame when Lockwood dropped down a squeeze bunt.

Perry’s other run came in the bottom of the fourth. Justin Stammer led off with a base hit, then raced home when Boyer tripled.

Perry returns home to face Greene County Thursday.
