The Perry footballers held a scrimmage Friday at Dewey Field to cap a celebration of the upcoming fall seasons for all Bluejay and Jayette teams.
The scrimmage lasted little more than 30 minutes and offered only a cursory look at what fans can expect, but that was exactly as head coach Matt Hardy wished. Hardy wanted to reveal as little as possible of likely formations and plays in the event first foe Greene County or others might have a scout on hand. He also admitted to still being unsure as to the possible starters in many positions, thus limiting the on-field action.
The Perry Booster Club sponsored the event and was on hand to spread the word of all they due in support of Perry activities and to add to their member list. The Jays Nest was open, offering the latest in trendy Bluejay and Jayette apparel and merchandise.
Each of the fall teams walked onto Kaufman Track to stand before the north bleachers and be introduced to the crowd, with Ryan Marzen’s cross country teams, Jean Dowd’s swimmers and Hardy’s gridders were all given a salute. Also on hand were John Fulton’s volleyballers, who had scrimmaged in the gym beforehand, as well as the director Brad Sparks and the Perry Marching Band along with Kim Herrera and the Perry cheerleaders.
The swim team will host Algona at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with the volleyball squad entertaining Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Greene County Thursday as well.
The Perry harriers open their season at Madrid Sept. 5, with their lone home meet the annual Leon Fox Invite Oct. 3. The football team visits Greene County for the Cowbell Game Friday before hosting ADM Sept. 6.
Full team previews will appear in the coming days in ThePerryNews.com. Video introductions of the teams appear at the end of this story.
