The Perry Chamber of Commerce will mark the 2019 National Small Business Week May 5-11 with the launch of a new initiative for business development called Better My Business and several kick-off events for the program.
A Regional Resource Forum will begin the Better My Business series. The forum will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 from 5:30-7 p.m. on the second floor of the Town/Craft Center.
Nine small-business resources, including five of Iowa’s top business-assistance providers, will explain their services and answer questions. It will be a valuable opportunity to make one-on-one connections. The Regional Resource Forum will include the following regional and statewide partners:
- U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
- America’s SBDC Iowa (Small Business Development Center) – Jenica Johnson
- Iowa Center for Economic Success – Claire Reiman
- Iowa Women’s Business Center
- Iowa Economic Development Authority Targeted Small Business Program
- IASourceLink
- SCORE Mentors – Tom Harbison
- DMACC Business Resources – Aaron Chittenden
- Iowa Legal Aid – Sam Wagner
The Perry Chamber of Commerce will also host a livestream viewing of the National Small Business Week Two-Day Virtual Conference Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the second floor of the Town/Craft Center.
The SBA and its resource partner SCORE are the official hosts of the Virtual Conference, with hour-long presentations throughout they day on topics such as marketing and financing.
Both events are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
In addition, a Better My Business workshop series and grant competition will include monthly sessions on various topics designed to help businesses grow and to help people looking to start a business. The series will conclude in February with the Better My Business Battle, a “Shark Tank”-type grant competition.
Workshop topics and dates of the Better My Business series are yet to be announced, but a program overview will be provided during the Chamber’s hosted National Small Business Week events.
