Expressing “deep disappointment and concern” at the news of the Tyson closure, the Perry City Hall said in a statement Wednesday that Perry stands with the factory’s employees and is “committed to supporting them in every way possible.”

Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh and Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson said in a joint statement, “The closure of the Tyson Foods pork plant is a significant blow to our community. Our thoughts are with the employees and their families who are facing uncertainty during this challenging time.”

They said the city “is taking immediate action to provide assistance and resources to affected employees” while also “actively exploring opportunities to revitalize the local economy and attract new businesses to the area.”

Cavanaugh said the loss of the town’s largest employer “presents challenges” but noted Perry is “resilient and determined to emerge stronger,” and he promised to “work tirelessly
to create new job opportunities and foster economic growth in Perry.”

The city’s leaders said they seek “input from the community” as they “navigate through this difficult time,” and they will ensure that “all voices are heard and considered” in the ongoing effort to “build a brighter future for Perry.”
