Anthony Robert Booth, , 32, of Perry was arrested Aug. 30 on warrants and on charges of person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons and interference with official acts.

A Perry man was arrested on a weapons charge in late August after he was served arrest warrants from Dallas and Greene counties by officers of the Perry Police Department.

Anthony Robert Booth, 32, of 1819 Sixth St., Perry, was arrested on a Dallas County warrant for third-degree theft in connection with an alleged April 2023 burglary and on a Greene County warrant for probation violation on an original charge of third-degree theft, and he was also charged as a person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons and interference with official acts.

The incident began about 6:15 p.m. Aug. 29 in the 1800 block of Sixth Street, where officers of the Perry Police Department observed Booth walking in an alley, and the officers began “calling out to” Booth, who “began to run from officers” and successfully “evaded officers” after “a short foot pursuit,” according to court records.

Booth later told the officers “that he ran due to knowing that he had a warrant for his arrest,” according to court records.

The following day at about 10:45 a.m., Booth was taken custody on the warrants by officers of the Perry Police Department. A search of Booth’s person allegedly disclosed “silver brass knuckles,” a dangerous weapon that Booth’s prior felony convictions make him ineligible to carry, according to court records.

Booth was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment Sept. 14 in Dallas County District Court.

Booth was convicted of third-degree theft in 2020 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of third-degree burglary in 2022 in Greene County District Court.
