The Perry Volunteer Fire Department conducted a controlled burn Saturday morning on a 97-year-old house at 505 Second St. in Perry.
The department rolled out its tankers, pumpers and aerial trucks for the exercise, which started about 7:30 a.m.
The house that fronted Second Street was destroyed, but the garage on the alley was preserved. Firefighters took care to protect structures on both sides of the 50-foot-wide lot.
The property, which was vacant, is owned by J. C. Cerna, according to county records.
