Some 35 volunteers of the Perry Emergency Food Pantry met Wednesday afternoon at the Perry Perk coffeehouse in downtown Perry for their annual meeting and volunteer appreciation fest.
Site Director Lou Hoger delivered the year’s data in an annual report, while a wider perspective was provided by Food Bank of Iowa Regional Director Jennifer Baccam, who described the many programs and initiatives of the Food Bank of Iowa across her 14-county region.
Hoger said the effects on the food pantry of the closure of the Tyson Fresh Meats factory are unpredictable.
“We might have a surge in users when the paychecks stop,” he said, “but then again the long-term impact might be an overall reduction in pantry users. We will have to wait and see.”
Thanked for their many hours of service over the last year were volunteers Scott Coffman, Karol Crosbie, Connie Culbertson, Marv Eastman, Bill Elias, Kathy Fox, Donna Galligan, Brenda Golay, Steve Golay, Barb Hansen, Gus Henrici, Lois Hoger, Lou Hoger, Carol Johnson, Marlene Johnson, Joanne Jones, Karen Kline, Patty Lile, Robin McCauley, Kathy Miner, David Oliveira, Don Ruggle, Becky Shelker, Dixie Slight, Jan Smith, Loretta Smith, Dean Stumbo, Jackie Svetly, Judy Tomenga, Tom Ulrich, Larry Vodnik, Cindy Withem and Margie Worrell.
