Perry frosh/soph gridders split first two games

The varsity Bluejays leave Dewey Field after defeating North Polk last season. Last Friday the Perry freshmen experienced victory for the first time in their grid careers.

The Perry freshman/sophomore football squad opened their season Aug. 26 with a 13-8 win over North Polk, with Nevada scoring a 22-8 win over the Bluejays last Friday.

Only limited statistics have been provided, none of which are from the opening contest. Keghan West was 7-of-14 for 108 yards in the air with one touchdown and one interception. Kato Dougan has three catches for 93 yards and a score, with Avery Meister collecting four passes for 15 yards, including a two-point conversion.

Perry struggled moving the ball against the Cubs, finishing with only 31 rushing yards on 18 carries. Running with the pigskin for the Jays was Erick Funez (8-19), Jacob Nelson (4-5), Tyler Fessler (2-3), West (2-5) and Dougan (2, -1).

The Bluejays will be in action Friday at 4:45 p.m. when Perry travels to Huxley to face Ballard.
