ADEL — The Perry volleyball team dropped four matches at the ADM tournament Thursday, three of them to ranked teams. However, the Jayettes also picked up a victory — their first of the year — to bring a bright spot to the five-match event.
Class 2A No. 8 Woodward-Granger had to scrap to escape Perry, with the Hawks winning, 21-17, before escaping with a 22-20 win in the second set. Perry’s second match was against Knoxville, with the Jayettes quickly posting a 21-10 win before just as quickly dropping a 21-12 decision to force a tiebreaking third game. Slowly pulling away, Perry prevailed, 15-12, for a 2-1 victory.
Jo Diw had 12 kills and Adrian Thompson seven in the win, with Sid Vancil adding the cause with 18 assists.
Host ADM knocked off Perry, 21-13 and 21-13, with Class 4A No. 12 Norwalk claiming a 21-12, 21-5 win. A 2-0 loss to 4A No. 14 Nevada on scores of 21-6 and 21-10 left Perry with an overall mark of 1-12 at the conclusion of the tourney.
Diw led the overall statistics for Perry with 22 kills. Thompson added 15 kills, Maddie West six and Isabel Saemisch and Gabby West one each, with Diw making four blocks, Thompson two and Sid Vancil one.
Vancil had 36 of Perry’s 38 assists, with Syd Guerra making 19 digs, Vancil 10, Adriana Eastman eight and Diw five while Maddie West tallied three digs and Thompson two.
Thompson connected on 34-of-38 serves with three aces, with Maddie West 22-of-25 with three aces. Gabby West finished 14-20-1, Diw 12-15-2 and Guerra 12-13-1 while Vancil was 18-of-20 and Eastman 2-of-3.
Perry visits ADM for a Raccoon River Conference dual Tuesday before hosting their own tournament Thursday.
