
Senior Night proved to a success for the Perry girls soccer team Tuesday.
Perry improved to 10-5 with a 3-0 win over Atlantic on Dewey Field in their regular season finale. The Jayettes honored seniors Grace Marburger, Mariah McNamara and Joselyn Perla for their efforts in helping elevate the program.
The hosts held a 1-0 lead at the half after Natalie Martinez scored in the 21st minutes on an assist from Syd Guerra. Three saves from goalie Selena Garcia helped keep Perry in front.
Carly Anderson made the only save required of her while defending the Jayette goal in the second half, with a pair of scores helping create a comfortable margin.
Molly Lutmer scored for the seventh time this season in the 54th minute, with Paola Gomez credited with the assist. Martinez added her seventh score 14 minutes later, with Marburger assisting, to cap the scoring.
The Jayette Junior Varsity were also victorious by a 3-0 margin Tuesday. Gomez, Esveidy Hernandez and Hannah Peterson each scored for Perry. Guerra played keeper in the first half and Anderson in the second half, with each recording a single save.
Perry will now await the winner of Thursday’s Class 2A Region 4 First Round game between Des Moines Hoover and Winterset, with the Jayettes hosting a semifinal Tuesday at 6 p.m. The other side of the bracket has Norwalk awaiting the winner of CMB vs DC-G. The Regional Final will be played June 5 at Norwalk at 6 p.m.
