Perry JV wrestlers compete at DC-G Invitational

GRIMES — Eight junior varsity wrestlers from Perry participated Monday in the DC-G Invitational, with several recording victories at the event.

Hayden McFarland placed third in bracket 7, Bryan Funez third in bracket 19, WIlber Ramirez third in bracket 20 and Daniel Brinton third in bracket 29. Each earned a win en route to their final placing.

McFarland scored a 4-2 win in Sudden Victory 1 over Indianola’s Jeff Phippen, with Funez claiming a 4-3 decision over Norwalk’s Cale Voitel. Ramirez pinned Alex Herrick of Indianola in 22 seconds for his victory, with Brinton sticking the shoulder os Gilbert’s Max Smalley to the mat in 3:59 for his win.

Others in action for Perry included Dakoda Strough, who was third in bracket 1, Kyla Devilbiss, who placed fourth in bracket 9 and Charley Guardado, fourth in bracket 12. Zowie Strough also competed for Perry and finished fourth in bracket 17.
