A Perry man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly assaulting his father in the home.

Matthew Riley Wolfgang Cornelison, 30, of 13710 L Ave., Perry, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, first-offense OWI and two counts of fifth-degree criminal mischief.

The incident began about 11:45 p.m. Friday at a residence in the 13700 block of L Avenue, where Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The deputies made contact with witnesses, who told the deputes that Cornelison allegedly “pushed his dad into a wall” and then “pushed his father into the doorway of a closet, causing his father to sustain a scratch on his right arm,” according to court records.

Cornelison left the residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement and was later located in rural Minburn. He presented with “bloodshot/watery eyes, unsteady balance and slurred speech,” according to court records.

A preliminary breath test returned a result in excess of the legal limit. A search of Cornelison’s vehicle disclosed “a case of Modelo beers in the back seat” and “THC products in plain view,” including a “THC vape and a unopened THC vape package,” according to court records.

Cornelison “admitted to pushing his father with two hands,” according to court records.

While awaiting booking, Cornelison allegedly damaged the walls of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. The damage was estimated at $100.

During transport to the Dallas County Jail, Cornelison allegedly “pushed and pried on the inside of the prisoner’s cage, causing the plexiglass cage to crack,” according to court records. The damage was estimated at less than $300.

Cornelison is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 4 in Dallas County District Court.
