A Perry man was arrested New Year’s Day in connection with a Dec. 26 incident in which he allegedly entered the home of another Perry man and assaulted him.
Jorge Romero, 27, of 1424 Seventh St., Perry, was charged with first-degree burglary, assault while participating in a felony and fifth-degree criminal mischief.
The incident began about 9 p.m. on Dec. 26 in the 300 block of Seventh Street, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of an assault.
The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Romero allegedly “entered the residence without permission” and “then broke down the bathroom door” and assaulted the victim “multiple times before leaving,” according to court records.
A witness to the incident said that Romero contacted her by phone prior to the alleged assault and told her “that he was coming over to the residence,” according to court records.
Officers observed on the victim “multiple red marks, bruising and swelling to the face and dried blood on his lower lip,” according to court records.
Romero fled the residence prior to the officers’ arrival.
A warrant for Romero’s arrest was ordered Dec. 27 in Dallas County District Court and served Jan. 1. Romero is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 11 in Dallas County District Court.
