A Perry man was arrested Thursday after allegedly scuffling with officers of the Perry Police Department at his home.

Johnathan Coty Brown, 38, of 1714 Fourth St., Perry, was charged with two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations, 12 counts of violation of a no-contact order and two counts of interference with official acts.

The incident began about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence in the 1700 block of Fourth Street, where officers of the Perry Police Department made contact with Brown in regard to a dozen messages he allegedly sent via social media Sept. 4 in violation of a no-contact order.

During the interview, Brown allegedly tried to “walk away” from the officers and “smack” one of the officer’s hands and then became “verbally and physically aggressive” and “attempted to shove” away both officers, which sparked “a physical altercation,” according to court records.

The officers “assisted” Brown “to the ground,” where he “continued to physically resist” until restrained by the wrists, according to court records.

He later allegedly made threatening statements to one of the officers, according to court records.

Brown is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 22 in Dallas County District Court.

Brown was convicted of interference with officials acts in 2005 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of interference with officials acts in 2007 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 2011 in Dallas County District Court. He was arrested in June in Perry on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness. The case is pending in Dallas County District Court.
