The incident began about 11:15 p.m. Saturday at the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave., where the victim reported an assault.
The victim told the officers that during the course of a verbal argument at the Third Street residence, Gravez-Castaneda “got behind her, put her neck in a choke hold and threw her to the ground and laid on top of her with his body weight,” according to court records.
The victim told the officers that Gravez-Castaneda “placed his hands around her mouth” and when the victim told him “that she could not breath,” he then “moved his hands over her nose, too,” according to court records.
The victim told the officers that she “clawed at his hands in an attempt to escape his grasp,” according to court records.
The officers observed on the victim “tiny red spots and a couple small bruises on her jaw line” and “the underside of” the victim’s neck, according to court records.
Gravez-Castaneda told the officers that the victim “picked up a toy car and threw it at his leg and in attempt to get her to calm down,” he “placed his arms around her” in order to “bring her to the ground,” according to court records.
Gravez-Castaneda told the officers that “he put his hands over” the victim’s “mouth to get her to calm down,” and his “hands could have covered her nose too, but was unsure,” according to court records.
The officers observed on Gravez-Castaneda “scratch marks” on his “left and right hands,” according to court records.
Gravez-Castaneda was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to his release on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for arraignment March 24 in Dallas County District Court.
