Cullen David Friedrichsen, 37, of Perry was arrested Saturday on a charge of first-offense stalking.

A Perry man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Saturday in connection with an incident three weeks ago in which he allegedly secretly attached a GPS tracking device to a Des Moines woman’s vehicle.

Cullen David Friedrichsen, 37, of 2223 Eagle Ave., Perry, was charged with first-offense stalking-unauthorized use of GPS.

The incident began Feb. 7 when the victim “discovered a SpyTec GPS unit affixed to the undercarriage of her motor vehicle,” according to court records.

The victim told officers of the West Des Moines Police Department that she believed the surveillance tracker was mounted to her vehicle while it was parked outside a West Des Moines sushi bar between Feb. 3-4.

By means of a subpoena to SpyTec GPS, a detective with the West Des Moines Police Department confirmed that Friedrichsen “ordered and received the exact same SpyTec GPS unit,” according to court records.

The victim is the protected party in a Polk County order of protection against Friedrichsen that was issued in January 2022 and extends to January 2024. A Dallas County order of protection was ordered Thursday in Dallas County District Court.

Friedrichsen was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 13 in Dallas County District Court.

Friedrichsen was convicted of reckless use of a firearm in 2006 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of harassment by communication in 2012 in Dallas County District Court.
