Perry netters finish 1-3 in own tournament

Perry hosted four opponents for the annual Jayette Tournament Thursday, with the hosts finishing with one win against three losses. The Jayettes are now 4-22 overall for the season.

Perry opened play with a 21-6, 21-10 victory over Saydel before suffering a 21-4, 21-17 loss to Class 4A No. 15 Ballard. Class 2A No. 9 Woodward-Granger topped the hosts, 21-17 and 24-22, with Roland Story escaping with a 21-17, 15-21, 15-12 win.

Jo Diw finished with 32 kills and Grace Marburger with 12, with Isabel Saemisch adding five kills, Adrian Thompson four and Sid Vancil and Maddie West two each. Vancil passed out 42 assists, with Marburger, West and Adriana Eastman providing one apiece.

Syd Guerra led the defense with 27 digs, with Diw tallying 18 and Marburger 13. Vancil had eight digs, Eastman and West four each and Saemisch two.

Guerra had a strong tourney serving the ball, finishing 28-of-29 with two aces. Vancil was 23-24-6, Diw 19-23-5, Marburger 22-25-1 and West 11-12-2. Eastman and Saemisch were both 9-of-11 behind the line,with Thompson 5-of-5.

W-G won the tourney with a 4-0 mark, defeating Saydel their four opponents in straight sets. Ballard was 3-1, Roland-Story 2-2 and Saydel 0-4.

Perry returns to action Thursday with a visit from Carlisle. The Jayettes will play in the Knoxville Tournament Oct. 15, then wrap their regular season with a trip to Greene County Oct. 17.
