Perry netters stumble to the end of their regular season

KNOXVILLE — Saturday has not been the preferred day of the week to play volleyball for the Perry netters this season, as the Jayettes fell to 0-12 in weekend action after dropping four matches at Knoxville.

The setbacks extended Perry’s current losing skid to 11 matches after the Jayettes were 3-0 victims of host Carlisle Thursday.

Saturday’s action ends the regular season for Perry, who will travel to Ballard Wednesday for a Class 4A Region 3 match at 7 p.m. The victor will advance to face hosting DC-G Oct. 29.

Perry ends the regular season 11-23 overall in matches played and 22-56 in total sets played. The Jayettes were 0-7 in Raccoon River Conference competition and have not won a league match since an Oct. 22, 2014 win over Ballard.

Losses Saturday came to Iowa Falls-Alden (21-10 and 21-11), Knoxville (21-5 and 21-14), Pella Christian (21-7 and 21-11) and Albia (21-19 and 21-9). Statistical information from all but the Albia match was provided.

Kacy Nevitt led Perry with nine kills, with Jasmine Shriver making eight kills, Ashley Cerna two and Peyton Tunink and Taylor Atwell one each. Nevitt finished with five blocks, with Jayna Kenney providing three blocks while Cerna, Shriver and Lanie Fish each had a single block.

Kenney had 19 assists and 12 digs, with Magley Orellana contributing 23 digs, Shriver 20 digs and Mary Ann Riesberg four. Jenisis Cerna and Nevitt both had three digs, Tunink and Joscelyn Nunez two apiece and Ashley Cerna one.

Perry served 51-of-57 with four aces in overall in the three reported matches. Orellana was 11-12-2, Riesberg 11-12-1 and Kenney 6-7-1. Fish and Jenisis Cerna were both 9-for-9 behind the line, with Shriver 7-for-7 and Atwell 0-for-1.

Carlisle had swept Perry, 3-0, Thursday, winning on scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-9. All 23 of Perry’s losses this season have been clean sweeps, the Jayettes unable to force a single additional set.

Nevitt had four kills against the Wildcats, with Shriver and Tunink making two each while Ashley Cerna and Fish had one each. Nevitt finished with two blocks and Shriver one, with Kenney contributing eight assists.

Perry was a perfect 31-of-31 serving, with two aces. Fish was 5-5-1 and Shriver 4-4-1, with Jenisis Cerna 8-of-8, Riesberg 7-of-7, Kenney 5-of-5 and Orellana 2-of-2.

Orellana had 10 digs and Shriver seven, with Jenisis Cerna tallying three digs, Kenney two and Fish and Ashley Cerna one each.
