Outstanding Optimist Club Member award-winner Jenny Eklund of Perry announced Thursday a new location for the Optimist Club’s pop can donation center: the Blue Jay Market at 2810 Willis Ave. in Perry.
“Lawrence Bice delivered the cage to Blue Jay Market,” Eklund said, “and Linda Kaufman is working with Jeff Matz at Graphics2U for a new banner. Sven Peterson and I were able to put the cage together.”
Eklund said the new spot for pop can donations will help boost Optimist Club revenues, which are used to support youth activities in the Perry area.
“The location is great!” Eklund said.
Bob Boyle, owner of the Blue Jay Market, said he was happy to donate the space next to his store for use by the Perry Optimists.
“I’ve been here 18 years,” Boyle said, “since November of 1997, and business has never been better. I like to help out local organizations like this whenever I can.”
The Optimists’ can collection cage was for a number of years located at the KansRUs Redemption Center at 2202 First Ave. in Perry. Policy changes at the redemption center made relocation necessary for the Perry Optimists.
