Perry Police Sgt. Matt Aswegan has accepted a position with the Polk City Police Department and will leave the Perry Police Department after seven years on the force.

Perry Police Department Officer Matt Aswegan was promoted last week to the rank of patrol sergeant, according to a statement released by the department.

Aswegan has been with the Perry Police Department for about five years.

His new duties include supervising the afternoon and midnight shifts. He also serves as one of the department’s firearms instructors and is a field training officer.

Aswegan’s promotion was announced at the same time as the promotion of Officer Laura Deaton to the rank of detective.

“Both will serve our community well in their new duties,” the department statement said.
