August 18, 2017

  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and “requested to speak to an officer about a domestic violence assault that happened.” An officer responded, and “charges are pending on a suspect.”
  • A caller requested to speak to an officer about child custody issues. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “someone broke into her residence last night,” but she “did not notice the damaged door until this morning.” An officer responded.
  • A caller from a local bank reported a deposit contained a counterfeit $20 bill. An officer responded.
  • A caller from a locas retail store said “someone had just attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill.” An officer responded, but the “suspect was gone upon arrival.”
  • A caller from a local bank reported a deposit contained a counterfeit $20 bill. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “her son was scratched by her neighbor’s pit bull, and he was a vicious dog.” An officer responded and determined the dog was not a pit bull and that the “dog ran out of the door when the kid opened it, and his paw scratched the kid” with “no malicious intent by the owner.” The caller was “advised to clean the area and apply ointment for care.”
  • A caller said he “hit and killed a cat” with his vehicle. An officer responded and “transported the cat to be disposed of,” noting “there wasn’t a collar on the cat.”

August 19, 2017

  • A caller said she caught a dog running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said a semi-tractor trailer was parked nearby, and “he saw some kids messing with the semi as he went by.” An officer responded and found the semi secure and no kids around.
  • Jennifer Mary Walkup, 29, 603 Fourth St., Dedham, Iowa, was arrested on a charge of first-offense OWI.
  • A caller said “his neighbor keeps threatening that he is going to sick his dog on him.” An officer responded and tried to make contact with the neighbor, who was absent.
  • A caller said she rented a shelter in Pattee Park, but “someone was in there, and they did not rent it out.” An officer responded and determined the caller “didn’t realize that they had rented the smaller shelter,” and the “matter was resolved.”
  • A caller said “she lost her phone a few weeks ago while riding her bike in Perry.”
  • A caller said her vehicle “was backed into.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said his dog was lost.
  • A caller reported people “arguing loudly,” and it “looked like one person grabbed the other.” An officer responded and found brothers engaged in a verbal argument.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a dog she caught running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.

August 20, 2017

  • A caller from a local retail store reported receiving “a counterfeit bill.” An officer responded.
  • A caller “wanted to know if he had a right to a vehicle that was registered to him but was currently in the possession of his wife.” An officer responded and “advised him to contact an attorney and that it was a civil matter.”
  • A caller said “he found a bike on the bike trail.” An officer “responded and placed the bike in the shed.”
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. in order “to speak with an officer regarding her son.” An officer responded and gave both the child and his mother “some ideas on how to work through their problems.”
  • A caller said someone “was just sitting on his porch.” He said “he opened his door, and that person left.” An officer responded and made contact with someone, who said “he was just heading home.”
  • A caller reported an erratic driver. An officer responded and made contact with the driver, who “was not impaired but was distracted by a hamster that she had purchased in Des Moines. The hamster was attempting to chew out of the cardboard container and escape into the car.”
  • A caller said “kids were throwing rocks.” An officer responded and made contact with the children, who “admitted to throwing the rocks at the car.” The officer also made contact with the children’s parents, and “both boys apologized to” the caller.
  • Bradley Eric Booth of 1216 Fifth St. was issued a citation for first-offense nuisance burning.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department was “flagged down” by someone who said “a vehicle had struck the building.” The officer investigated and determined a box van had struck the building, causing an estimated $250 in damage.
  • A caller said “she can hear a man holler and a dog yelping” and concluded “the man is abusing the dog.” An officer responded and made contact with the man, who said “he had been yelling” because he “was upset because his sewer was backing up in his basement, and his hollering upset the dog, who started yelping.” The officer also made contact with the dog, who “was happy and looked healthy.”

August 21, 2017

  • Thomas Delaine Barber, 46, 1805 Willis Ave., Perry, was arrested on a charge of first-offense OWI.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
