Perry Police Report Feb. 23

  • Edwin Antonio Montes Mendez, 23, 1723 Pine St., #3, Perry, was arrested on a charge of driving under suspension.
  • A caller said “she received a call from someone claiming they are from the Social Security office and they will arrest her if she didn’t provide the information they needed.” The caller said she told “them she knew this was a scam and hung up.”
  • A caller form the Dallas County Sheriff’s office asked that officers of the Perry Police Department “be on the lookout for a plow that was stolen out of Granger on Feb. 8.” The caller said the plow’s “owner had received a call that the plow had been seen in Perry” about 9:30 a.m. on First Avenue. Officers were advised.
  • A caller “reported to have heard a loud explosion sound about 10 minutes ago coming from” a commercial building in the 1300 block of Second Street. The Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged and determined a squirrel short circuited an overhead transformer in the alleyway. Alliant Energy was notified.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department “witnessed what seemed to be a verbal argument between a mother and a daughter.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said “three juvenile males were walking in the middle of the road” and “weren’t moving over for vehicles,” and “one of the males had on handcuffs.” Officers responded and made contact with the males, who said “everything was fine,” and they “couldn’t walk on the sidewalk because they were covered in snow. The juvenile with the handcuffs thoiught it would be funny, but they’re off now.”
  • A caller said “he had been stuck in the automatic car wash for an hour now, and he tried calling the emergency number, but they said there was nothing they could do for him.” The caller called again as an officer was responding and said “the owner had opened the door for him.”
  • A caller “requested a welfare check on her son,” whom she “hasn’t spoken to him since Monday and is supposed to.” An officer responded and made contact with someone “who denied him entry to the residence,” but the officer could see the son “through a window.” The officer called the caller back “and advised her of what happened.”
  • A caller said “some boys are picking on her son at school.” The Perry Police Department School Resource Officer responded.
  • A caller said “her house was broken into.” Officers responded.
  • A “third-party caller” said “her daughter heard someone open her basement door.” The caller said she told her daughter “to stay upstairs and lock her kitchen door.” Officers “responded and cleared the basement.” The officers concluded “it did not appear that there was anyone who was in or had been around the area of the residence.”
  • A caller said “she was advised to call the police department to contact the water company if she had issues with her meter,” which the caller said “had started leaking.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked nearby. An officer responded and determined “everything is okay.”

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
