July 5, 2018

  • A caller said “she just saw a two-vehicle collision with airbag deployment” east of Perry on Iowa Highway 141. An officer responded. Perry First Responders and the Dallas County EMS were paged. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was alerted.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a “small, black, zip-up, round coin purse” he said he found. An officer responded to “log it into evidence.”
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he found a bicycle. An officer responded and secured the item “in the bike shed.”
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller said her bicycle was “stolen from her house last night.” An officer responded.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a Shop Your Way card he said he found. An officer responded, and the item was “logged into evidence.”
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with “a letter explaining that he needs help with talking to Direct TV, but he is unable to do so himself because of a language barrier.” The man said “a representative came to talk to him at his home a few weeks ago,” and “now he has received a bill, not understanding what he signed.” An officer responded and made contact with the representative who came to his house, who said the company will call the man “to explain the situation and try to assist him.”
  • A caller said “he caught a small kitten” and “wanted to know what to do with it and if he could take it to the pound.” An officer responded and arranged to meet the caller at the Perry Animal Holding Facility. The officer waited at the facility for about 20 minutes and then called the caller, “but he did not answer or show up.”
  • A caller “reported a 10-year-old boy shooting off fireworks in the street.” An officer responded but did not find anyone with fireworks.
  • A caller from a local retail store said “they have video of a kid that had stolen something.” An officer responded, reviewed the video and determined an “unknown juvenile took a possible toy, possibly a toy gun but not certain.”
  • A caller said his dog was lost. A caller from the Dallas County Hospital said a dog matching the description of the missing dog “came into the hospital in the ambulance garage.” The caller retrieved his dog.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. in order “to report being harassed.” An officer responded.
  • A caller “reported a gas drive off” at a local retail store. An officer responded.
  • A caller “reported the neighbors to the north shooting off fireworks.” An officer responded and made contract with three juvenile males, who said “they were lighting them, but they stopped.” The officer “advised them this is their one and only warning,” and “if they discharge fireworks again, they will be referred to the juvenile courts.”
  • A caller said her daughter was “missing from the soccer fields where Stine Seed drops off.” An officer responded and determined the daughter “is okay” and “still at work.”
  • A caller said a door was ajar in a vacant house. Officers responded, “searched and secured the home.”
  • A caller reported “loud music and yelling” from a neighboring residence. Officers responded and asked the neighbors “to keep it down.”
  • A caller said she caught two dogs running at large. An officer responded and was preparing to transport the dog to the Perry Animal Holding Facility when an owner of one of the dogs arrived and retrieved his dog. The officer transported the remaining dog.

July 6, 2018

  • A caller said “two bags of trash were taken from her front yard overnight.” The caller also said “her front security camera was offline,” and “she believes someone hacked in and turned the front camera off.” An officer responded and informed the caller that “trash is free for the taking if someone wants trash for whatever odd reason.” The caller “brought up that it’s odd the dog puked up two pieces of carrots.” The matter of the security camera was “not able to be determined.”
  • A caller said the “neighbors across the street park their vehicles, blocking his drive.” An officer responded.
  • A caller from a security company reported an alarm “in the vault” of a local bank. An officer responded and determined the alarm was false.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a credit card he said he found. An officer responded and received the item “to log into evidence.”
  • A caller “requested an officer be present to stand by at a child exchange.” An officer responded, and the child was exchanged “without incident.”
  • Connie Martin Woods of 1617 W. Fourth St., Perry, was issued a citation for second-offense dog at large.
  • An officer of the Perry Police Department performed a funeral escort.
  • Officers of the Perry Police Department performed traffic control at the Dallas County Hospital for the arrival of an air ambulance.
  • A caller from a local retail store reported shoplifting. An officer responded, reviewed video tape and determined “maybe some candy was taken.”
  • A 13-year-old male was issued a no-trespass order at a local retail story after he “admitted to stealing a toy the other day” to an officer of the Perry Police Department. The child said he would return the toy Monday.
  • A caller said his brother’s “checkbook got stolen.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported “people shooting off firecrackers.” An officer responded but did not find anyone using fireworks.
  • A caller reported an abandoned bicycle. An officer was advised.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a dog she caught running at large. An officer responded, called the number on the dog’s tags and the owner retrieved the dog.
  • A 17-year-old male from Des Moines was arrested on a charge of driving under suspension and on a Dallas County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving under suspension.

July 7, 2019

  • A caller said a vehicle has been idling for seven hours. An officer responded and found a “truck was on and running.” The officer “shut off the truck, removed the keys and locked the doors” and “attempted to contact the owner.”
  • A caller said he “heard an explosion” on “Iowa Highway 144 about four miles north of Perry.” The Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged.
  • A wireless 911 caller said “her ex has four-hour visitation rights,” and “she is requesting he give her proof of insurance,” but “he will not show her anything.” An officer responded and “advised her her rights.”
  • A caller said someone was “riding her bumper all the way to town.” The caller said she “believes the reason is because of something one of her bumper stickers says.” The caller said “the driver appeared angry.” An officer responded but did not find the angry driver.
  • A caller “requested to speak with an officer to find out how he can get a protective order against a relative.” An officer responded and “explained how to obtain a no-contact order.”
  • A caller said “her basement was flooded from the last rain,” and “she wanted us to know she is” placing “damaged property onto the curb.” The caller said “the neighbors call her in for everything and complain about everything she does.” Officers were advised.
  • A caller said she caught a dog running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said a dog at a neighboring residence “has been barking all night and all day.” The caller said she is “worried for the dog’s welfare.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported “a telephone wire down in the alleyway.” An officer responded and made contact with the utility company.
  • A caller from the Dallas County Hospital reported a patient with “a superficial dog bite.” An officer was advised.
  • A caller from outside the corporate limits of Perry said a dog was running at large. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified.
  • A caller said she witnessed a male driver in a vehicle “who made a fist at some children who were with him in the vehicle.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said her children said “a man was pounding on their front door” while the caller was away from the house. The caller said the children said the man was driving “a red truck with a big dog in it.” The caller said “she has been having issues with her ex-husband and believes he may be involved.” An officer responded and recommended the caller “stay closer to home or take the kids with her if she knows these problems exist.”
  • A wireless 911 caller said “someone was shooting off fireworks” in Minburn. The caller was transferred to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.
  • A caller said “people were shooting off fireworks.” An officer was advised.
  • A caller said “two males were trying to break into their residence.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said “he was driving” and “noticed a fridge out on the curb.” The caller said he was “concerned a child would go inside and get trapped. Officers were searching for two males subjects in a breaking-and-entering call so could not immediately respond.”

July 8, 2018

  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department found a vehicle “that had a rear window broken.” The officer determined “nothing was moved around inside the vehicle,” and the “vehicle was also unlocked.” The officer made contact with the owner of the vehicle, who said “she didn’t know anyone that would want to do this to her.”
  • Eduardo Josia Sanchez-Gomez, 19, 1816 Fourth St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
  • A caller said “her car alarm is going off,” and the caller “was wondering is an officer could swing by.” An officer responded. The caller called again about 30 minutes later and said “her neighbor’s car alarm was going off now.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported nuisance burning at a neighboring residence. An officer responded.
  • A caller said she “found plants that were outside and had marijuana growing.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “her ex-boyfriend was at the door, banging really loud, and she was hiding in her house from him.” Officers responded.

July 9, 2018

  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department was informed a dog was running at large. An officer responded.
  • A caller said his dog was lost.
  • A caller from a local retail store said a vehicle was “blocking the dumpster.” An officer responded.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
