Daniella Tapia, Victoria Hegstrom and Joe Olvera were the top three winners of the recent Perry Optimist Club’s annual essay contest.
The yearly event asks students to prepare an essay, and defend their position, to a prepared question or topic. The title of this year’s contest was “Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction?”
Tapia was awarded first place. Her essay will now be submitted to the Optimist State Essay Contest, the winner of which will receive a $2,500 college scholarship.
Hegstrom earned second place in the local contest, with Olvera placing third. All three are seniors at Perry High School.
The trio were presented medals Tuesday in the PHS office by Dr. Randy McCaulley, President of the Perry Optimist Club.
