A Perry family was introduced to young and old stars thanks to an exhibition by the Des Moines Astronomical Society at the recent STEM Festival held on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus.

Twelve-year-old Alison Bane and her nine-year-old sister, Danica, were among 800 third through eighth graders and their families attended the free, family-friendly  STEM event. Alison and Danica are the daughters of Jason and Aimee Bane of Perry.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The STEM Festival featured more than 40 booths, with interactive learning activities, hands-on demonstrations and make-and-takes for the young technicians in training.
