Algona and Boone visited the McCreary Community Building pool Tuesday for a triple-dual with host Perry. The format calls for all three teams to compete simultaneously, but results are scored individually against each opponent. Boone was a 64-29 winner over Perry and a 71-23 victor against Algona while Algona slipped past Perry, 53-41.
Perry swimmers recorded four personal-best efforts at the meet, four double-wins and one split win. The Jayettes were second to both guests in the 200 medley relay, with Breanna Penenger, Anna Ridnour and Sarah and Haley Vaughn finishing in 2 minutes, 17.4 seconds. Perry finished 2-3 (versus Algona and Boone, respectively) in the 200 free relay in 1:59.16, with Ridnour and Dannah Karolus joined by the Vaughn sisters while a 4:29.87 clocking in the 400 free relay from Sarah Vaughn, Avery Miner, Karolus and Penenger earned the team points for a 2-3 finish.
Penenger was first against both foes in the 500 freestyle in 6:18.51 and was a double-winner in the 200 free as well by touching in 2:20.26. Jayette freshman Avery Miner was second against Algona in the 200 free in 2:37.14.
Senior captain Haley Vaughn posted a pair of personal-best times in reaching the wall first among all swimmers in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. Her times of 2:29.09 and of 1:09.72, respectively, represented drops of 1.31 and 1.32 seconds.
Sarah Vaughn finished 1-2 with a 1:18.2 effort in the 100 fly, with Karolus 2-2, in 1:05.55, in the 100 free. A PB clocking of 29.36 ticks from Karolus in the 50 free was a 2-3 placer for the hosts, with Kaira Francis finishing the sprint in 42.24 in her first varsity race.
Perry also received a placing of 2-3 in the 100 breaststroke as sophomore Anna Ridnour posted her second consecutive PB, this time hitting the timing pad in 1:27.92.
Perry will compete in a triple-dual Thursday when they join Des Moines Roosevelt for a meet against host Indianola. The Jayettes will then receive a reprieve of over a week, as their first meet after Thursday is not until a visit to the Fort Dodge Invitational Sept. 17.
