
GRINNELL – A new addition, six new personal-best efforts and a strong all-around showing led to an excited bus load of Perry swimmers on the return trip from Grinnell Tuesday.
The Jayettes were able to ring the victory bell at PHS thanks to a 97-64 win over Williamsburg. Host Grinnell has topped Perry, 107-72 (13 Tiger points came from diving), with Grinnell posting an 118-59 win over Williamsburg. The format called for each team to be scored separately against each of their opponents.
Perry welcomed senior Marina Rade to the team for her first meet. Attending Panorama, the foreign exchange student from Northern Italy had only recently been cleared for competition.
Perry was second to Grinnell and first against Williamsburg in the 200 medley relay, with Rade, Sarah Vaughn, Anna Ridnour and Amanda Holwegner clocking in at 2 minutes, 17.2 seconds.

The 200 free relay squad of Ridnour, Rade, Abby Herman and Dannah Karolus were 2/1 in 1:59.48, with Vaughn, Karolus, Avery Miner and Breanna Penenger also 2/1 in the 400 free relay in 4:23.27.
Penenger were 1-1 and Ridnour second to Grinnell and second behind Penenger against Williamsburg in the 200 free with times of 2:17.23 and 2:27.02, respectively.
Karolus shaved 1.6 seconds and Herman 3.26 ticks in the 200 individual medley for a pair of personal bests while placing 1-1 and 2-2 in 2:37.95 and 2:52.68.
Rade was 3-1 in the 50 free in 29.73, with Holwegner second in the event in 32.04, with Karolus 1-1, in 1:12.35, and Vivian Gonzalez 2-2, in 1:26.5, in the 100 butterfly.
A 1:05.52 placed Rade 3-1 in the 100 free, with Herman second to Williamsburg behind Rade in 1:07.68.
A pair of personal-best efforts lifted Penenger to 1-1, in 6:00.55, and Miner to 2-2, in 6:13.58, in the 500 free.
Twin PB’s from Gonzalez and Miner followed in the 100 backstroke. Gonzalez was 3-1 in 1:18.39 and Miner second, behind Gonzalez, to Williamsburg in 1:23.79.
Ridnour was 1-3 in the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.62, with Holwegner second to Grinnell, behind Ridnour, in 1:32.05.
Perry swims at Des Moines North tonight and will host Atlantic Tuesday.
