Perry woman arrested for drunk driving, child endangerment

A Perry woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after she was found allegedly drunk driving with a child in the vehicle.

Ana Guadalupe Ventura Mendoza, 32, of 1202 Paul St., Perry, was charged with first-offense OWI and child endangerment.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on Iowa Highway 141 near 10th Street, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of erratic driving.

The officers made contact with Ventura Mendoza, who presented with “bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol,” according to court records.

In the rear seat of the vehicle was a 5-year-old child and several empty liquor containers, according to court records. Two full containers were located in the center console of the vehicle.

Ventura Mendoza declined to perform the standardized field sobriety tests.

Ventura Mendoza is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond, She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 4 in Dallas County District Court.
