Phillip David Conklin, 59, of Perry passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, in Clive, Iowa. He was born Oct. 23, 1963, in Perry, Iowa,, the son of Ronald Eugene and Helen Louise (Lambert) Conklin.
He attended Perry schools through ninth grade.
Phil was united in marriage to Debra Linn Gliem on July 15, 1982. This union lasted 10 years, and two children were born, Bradley Allen and Erica Ann.
On June 14, 1998, Phil was united in marriage to Robin Louise (Malone) Long and welcomed two step-daughters, Sara Louise and Rachel Rene.
Phil had many jobs over his life, as a welding apprentice, ag worker at Central Iowa Farm Service, 12 years as a concrete truck driver, construction with MAC Construction, dump truck driver hauling asphalt, semi-truck driver hauling over-sized equipment — his last job was with Heartland Co-op in Minburn as grain worker and was recently moved into transportation. Out of all the jobs he had in his life, he was a truck driver at heart and enjoyed hauling the over-sized equipment the most.
Phil loved spending time with his grandchildren, working in his part-time body shop and gardening.
He was known for his mischievous sense of humor and enjoyed talking to anybody.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Douglas Ronald Conklin.
He is survived by his wife, Robin; children, Brad Conklin, Erica (Mike) Conklin, Sara (Chris) Carmichael and Rachel (Brian) Long; and grandchildren, Brianna (Joey), Brandon, Zachary, Joseph, Valerie, Jenna, Nicholas, Jasmine, Delyla, William, Alyce, Liam and Greyson; and one great-grandson, Elias; sister, Theresa (Mike) Robison; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8 at the Heartland Church of Christ, 14417 J Avenue, Perry, Iowa, beginning with family visitation at 3 p.m. and service at 4:30 p.m. followed by supper with family and friends.
