ANKENY, Iowa — Perry High School Principal Bradley Snowgren of Perry was recognized Friday for his strong leadership and crisis management skills when he was received a DMACC Outstanding Alumni Award, the highest honor given by the DMACC Alumni Association.

Snowgren received an associate of arts degree in liberal arts from the DMACC Boone Campus in 2000. He went on to pursue a bachelor of science at Iowa State University in 2004 and a master of arts in education from Viterbo University in 2015.

He was named the interim and later permanent principal at PHS following the tragic shooting at the school in January 2024. Snowgren was the successor to former Principal Dan Marburger, who was killed in the shooting, in which two Perry students also died and several were wounded.

DMACC Executive Academic Dean of Education, Communication and Humanities Drew Nelson presented the Outstanding Alumni Award on behalf of the Alumni Association, saying Snowgren stepped into the role of interim principal during a challenging time.

“Brad played a crucial part in ensuring the safety of his school community and reopening the building after a tumultuous event,” said Nelson. “His leadership style, characterized by collaboration and a commitment to data-driven school improvement strategies, has earned him the respect of both staff and students.”

Snowgren is actively involved in community organizations, including Elks Lodge 407 and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. His contributions to education and his community have not gone unnoticed as he has received challenge coins from both the Iowa National Guard and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for his outstanding service as a civilian.

The Outstanding Alumni Award is the highest honor given to DMACC alumni by the DMACC Alumni Association. The award honors and recognizes alumni who provided service to their community, country and/or fellow citizen, who made great professional or personal achievements since graduation and/or who continue to be involved in the life and work of DMACC.

Snowgren was honored at a special dinner ceremony recently hosted by the DMACC Alumni Association and held on the DMACC Ankeny Campus.
