Emily Wilson Spellman, a 1993 graduate of Perry High School, has been named as one of the 2018 recipients of the 100 Great Iowa Nurses award.
Spellman is one of three nurses from the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital to receive the honor, now in its 14th year.
The 100 Great Iowa Nurses will be honored May 4 at the beginning of National Nurses Week at a celebration in Des Moines. Recipients from prior years will also recognized, and new honorees bring family, friends and colleagues to share in the recognition of their outstanding achievements.
Nurses selected for the honor represent many sectors of health care, working as nurses in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools and offices. They come from all practice areas in nursing, including acute care, sub-acute care, school nursing, nurse leaders, academics and many others.
According to the 100 Great Iowa Nurses, the award “recognizes nurses that have made meaningful, lasting contributions to their patients, colleagues and the nursing profession and are viewed as mentors to other nursing professionals. This year’s honorees exemplify all of the principles on which the 100 Great Iowa Nurses Celebration was founded.”
