PHS students honored for winning annual Optimist Club Essay Contest

Three Perry High School student writers were honored by the Perry Optimist Club Wednesday night for their award-winning essays, submitted in the club’s annual essay contest.

Award medals for the young writers were presented the Optimist Club’s Linda Andorf. Capturing first place was PHS senior Janelly Sanchez. Second place was captured by senior Olivia Christensen, and third place went to senior Mylah Meis. The students are instructed by DMACC English teacher Linda Kaufman.

The essayists and their families attended the monthly Optimist Club meeting at the Hotel Pattee and shared refreshments with the club members prior to the ceremonies.

The theme of this year’s essay was “How Optimism Has Paved My Road to Success.” The submissions were reviewed by Perry Optimist Club members Dr. Randy McCaulley, Dr. James Caufield and Dr. Richard Wede.
