PHS swimmers set records at Ames Invitational Saturday

The Perry High School swim team traveled to Ames Saturday to compete in the Ames Invitational. The diving portion of the meet was held in the morning, with the swimming portion of the meet starting at noon.

The host team, Ames High School, came in first with 659 points. Second place went to Linn-Mar with 445 points, and third place was captured by Cedar Rapids Kennedy with 436 points. Pleasant Valley placed fourth with 389 points, and Perry took fifth place with 186 points. Perry did not complete in the diving portion of the meet. Sixth place went to Des Moines Roosevelt with 151 points, and Grinnell finished the day with 44 points, having competed only in the morning’s diving portion of the meet.

The Jayettes set two season best relay times, and six PHS swimmers set personal best times in individual events and two personal best times as lead-off legs on relays. Senior Aleah Karolus pre-qualified again for state swimming in the 100 Freestyle.

Medley Relay

Aleah Karolus, 1st place, 24.22, personal best time, dropping -0.31 seconds, lowering her pre-qualifying time for the state meet in November.

The Jayettes’ next swim meet is Tuesday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Grinnell to swim against Vinton-Shellsburg and Grinnell. The contest begins at 7 p.m.
