Monday marked the opening day of official practices for football, volleyball, cross country and girls swimming in Iowa.
Among the teams beginning to prepare for their new campaign Monday was the Perry football team, who will compete in Class 3A District 2 for the next two seasons.

District play begins Sept. 9 with a trip to Ballard, with Boone dropping by Dewey Field Sept. 16 while Perry is to visit DC-G Sept. 23.
Homecoming is set for Sept. 30 against Gilbert, with road trips to Webster City (Oct. 7) and Greene County (the 85th Cowbell Game, Oct. 14) following. The regular season ends Oct. 21 when Perry entertains Iowa Falls-Alden.
