The Raccoon River Valley Bicycle Co., Perry’s premier outlet for quality bicycles and gear, will close its doors for good Saturday, Feb, 29, owner Lee Coons announced Friday.
“I would like to take a minute to thank all of our wonderful and loyal customers who have helped keep us in business for the past seven-plus years,” Coons said in a Facebook post. “It’s been a great ride, but its time to turn my focus on family and spending more time with them. I will always be available by phone if anyone ever needs help or just wants to go for a ride.”
During his time as a small-business owner, Coons has been a pillar of the Perry Chamber of Commerce and a tireless booster for Perry. His announcement drew many laments mixed with well wishes.
“Your reasons are noble and understandable,” said one Facebook reader, “but you will still be greatly missed by so many. Thank you for running a truly great bike shop!”
Coons said he will liquidate his inventory between now and Feb. 29.
“In the meantime,” he said, “come take advantage of the unbelievable prices. We are offering up to 50% off on everything in stock. Thank you again for your business. I truly appreciate every one of you.”
