ADEL, Iowa — The ribbon was cut Wednesday on the Raccoon Valley Bank ice skating rink, located alongside the Raccoon Valley Bank community house at S. 11th and Main streets.
“The Raccoon Valley Bank and the Garst family always envisioned this area as a ice skating rink,” said Deb Bengtson, president of the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce.
The original vision for the facility, preserved in the 1994 blue prints, foresaw using the Raccoon Valley Community House as a warming hut for the rink, and the 2020 development has brought that vision to reality.
The Friends of the Rink maintain the ice, with the Adel Parks and Recreation Department installing and storing the rink and signage and the Adel Volunteer Fire Department filling the rink and putting on top coats as needed.
“You can see it is truly a community project,” Bengston said.
