Richard William Engler, 88, of Perry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the King’s Garden campus of the Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, Iowa.

Services will be held at the St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A luncheon will be served in the church hall by the St. Bernadette Circle.

Richard was born Oct. 18, 1936, in Cedar Rapids to Norbert and Marie (Unash) Engler.

A longtime resident of Cedar Rapids before moving to the Des Moines area, he was a devoted member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church and retired from Rockwell Collins after working there for many years.

A true tinkerer at heart, Richard enjoyed taking things apart, whether or not they got put back together. He had a passion for woodworking and a keen interest in radios, electronics and computers.

He also loved music and could often be heard whistling or humming a tune.

Above all he cherished his family and the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his children: Steve (Vicki) Engler of Bettendorf, Bob (Rita) Engler of Urbandale, Mariann (Jon) Ryan of Cedar Rapids and Christopher Engler of Marshalltown; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joyce Hladek of Surprise, Arizona, and Kay Walsh of Clive; and his twin brother, Bob (Carol Nilles) Engler of Cedar Rapids. He is also remembered by many extended family members and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Sue Wendt and Carol Engler; and his brother, Leo Engler.
