Ride the Thin Blue Line, a memorial project for all Iowa police officers and first responders who have died in the line of duty, will host a kickoff event Saturday, Nov. 17 from 7-11 p.m. at Mickey’s Irish Pub, 50 S.E. Laurel St. in Waukee.
“This event will serve as the official start of the process,” said Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard. “Our memorial will be apart of the new Dallas County Sheriff’s office in Adel and incorporate the bike trail behind the new department. Because of the bike trail location, we decided to name this project Ride the Thin Blue Line.”
The event will begin with Leonard’s sharing the vision and story behind the project to the crowd at Mickey’s. Live music will follow at 7 p.m. by Howard Freerksen at and 9 p.m. by Red Dirt Renegade
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association will be selling Ride the Thin Blue Line T-shirts for attendees who wish to show their support.
“We are looking to raise money to honor these fallen Iowa Police officers and build a memorial to commemorate them,” Leonard said. “We are looking for everyone who supports law enforcement in the state of Iowa to help those who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving and protecting our communities. Become part of something special.”
